Ray Whitford

Raymond Joseph Whitford, 61, of Atikokan, passed away peacefully at home, with his family at his side, on Friday, November 22, 2013.

Ray was born March 19, 1952, in Falconbridge (Sudbury), Ontario, and attended school in Garson, Ontario. He moved to Atikokan in 1980, where he met Bonny, his wife of 33 years.

Ray’s greatest joy was spending quality, fun times with his grandchildren. Over the years, he worked at various jobs, but always thrived in the demolition business. He worked hard, lived for his family, and made many long and lasting friendships through his lifetime. Ray will always be loved and missed by all who knew him.

Ray is survived by his loving wife Bonny, sons Steven (Tina) Cunningham of White Court, Alberta and Rick Whitford of Ottawa; daughter Raquel (Richard) Quenneyville of Sudbury; grandchildren Austin and Emily Quenneyville and Adam and Stephanie Cunningham; sisters Gail, Ruth and Isabelle (Allen); special niece Linda Jetty of Toronto, and many nieces, nephews and in-laws. Ray also leaves behind his faithful companions Tubs and Nikki.

Ray was pre-deceased by his parents, Clarence and Violet Whitford; siblings Sonny, Basial, Arnold, Lucy and Iris; parents-in-law Frances and Clifford Cunningham; brothers-in-law James and Leroy Cunningham; and nephews Joe Benjamin and David Cunningham.

Cremation has taken place, and at Ray’s request there will be no service. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Atikokan Homeward Bound Animal Rescue or the ALS Society of Canada.
