Ralph Brown

With profound sadness, the family of Ralph W.E. Brown, 70, announce his sudden passing on Friday, December 5, 2014 at his home.

Ralph was born in Ottawa on February 5, 1944, to Lloyd and Jean, one of seven siblings. The family moved throughout Canada, until Ralph accepted his first teaching position in Flanders. He remained there until the Flanders School Board amalgamated with the Atikokan Public School Board. His career continued for 35 years at Rawn Road, Clark Street, Saturn and North Star schools. He touched the lives of many students with his dedication, humour, and love of teaching. Upon moving to Atikokan, he met the love of his live, Marilyn Hnatiuk.

Ralph served on many committees during his teaching career. He supported groups that his children were in. Before his death, he was a member of the Museum Board. He loved gardening, especially tending to all of his beautiful flowers, bird watching, and daily walks with the dog. Ralph also enjoyed reading, cooking, and gathering with family and friends. He always looked forward to his annual bird count and owling expeditions.

Family was very important to Ralph and we have many cherished memories. He was a proud grandfather and was affectionately known as Babio by his loving grandchildren. Ralph was a selfless, strong, knowledgeable, content, friendly, and organized person. He gave his family the gift of unconditional love and support.

Ralph is lovingly remembered and deeply missed by his wife of 42 years, Marilyn; daughter Shannon (Dan) Richard of Atikokan; son Christopher of Lloydminster, Alberta; grandchildren Ella, Cale and Laini; brothers Dana (Jane) and Barry (Diane); sisters Sheila (Alan), Debra (Bohdan) and Laurie (Chris); sister-in-law Joan, as well as numerous nieces, nephews and other relatives.

He was predeceased by his parents and his brother David.

In accordance with Ralph’s wishes, cremation has taken place and a funeral service was held on Wednesday, December 10 at St. Patrick’s Church. Interment will be held at a later date. Arrangements were entrusted to Green Funeral Home. Donations in Ralph’s memory may be made to the Heart and Stroke Foundation or the Atikokan General Hospital.

DAD,

Your love of nature inspired us;

Your love of family nourished us;

Your loving spirit lives on in us.
