Alex Khober

Alex Khober, 81, of Atikokan, passed away on Friday, January 17, 2014 at Atikokan General Hospital.

Alex was born in Blackhawk, Ontario October 9, 1932, to Alexander and Lydia Khober. He grew up with nine brothers and sisters on the family farm in Richardson Township. In 1964 Alex started working with Stan Bates Construction in Finland, Ontario, and moved to Atikokan to work with Bates in 1974.

He was known as a gentle, kind-hearted and generous person, and was very active in the Atikokan branch of the Royal Canadian Legion. He served at least three terms on the branch executive, was a long-time member of the Legion Colour Guard, and was recently honoured to receive his 25-year service award. Alex was also a member of the Atikokan Lions Club.

On May 5, 2007, he married Joy Frenette, with whom he shared six happy years.

He is survived by Joy, brother Don (Timmins, Ontario), sisters Lydia Barrass (Emo), Shirley Cropper (Sudbury), Joan Risto (Napanee), Alice Cropper (North Bay), and Christine Taulu (Vancouver), and many nieces and nephews. He was pre-deceased by siblings Eunice (Pietila) Tuddingham, Mary Unwin and Jim Khober.

Cremation has taken place. A service is planned for May 10, 2014, at 1 pm at the Royal Canadian Legion in Atikokan.
