Edward ‘Eddy’ Newman

Edward Gustov Newman, 95, passed away peacefully at home in Atikokan on August 31, 2013, with his family by his side. Also around were his grandchildren and great grandchildren.

Eddy was born in Winnipeg on May 6, 1918. He worked at Steep Rock Iron Mines from opening to closing, and was Pit Superintendent for many years. Eddy was a gentleman, kind, generous and forgiving. He loved all his grandchildren and great grandchildren.

He is survived by his wife of 69 years, Vera, his three children, Shirley Lysakowski, Doug (Denise), and Barb Minelli (Frank); five grandchildren, Kayla Newman, Brooke Lysakowski, Adrian (A.J.) Lysakowski (Lynne), Melissa Minelli, Michael Minelli (Heather), and ten great grandchildren, Cody, Matthew and Julia (Michael and Heather); Emily, Nathan and Samuel (Melissa); Ashley, Kayleigh, Brooke and Aidan (Adrian and Lynne). Also surviving are his sister Alma Foreman and several nieces and nephews out west.

A graveside service will take place at Little Falls Cemetery on Tuesday, September 10, at 1 pm. In lieu of flowers a donation to the animal shelter of your choice would be appreciated.
