Mary Calder
We are very sorry to announce the peaceful passing of Mary Calder (née Croome), 92, on Monday, January 5, 2015 at Christenson Village in Gibsons, BC.
Mary was born in Rainy River, Ontario on May 5, 1922. She married Webb Calder in 1943 and in 1950 they moved with their family to Atikokan. Mary was involved in numerous community organizations throughout her life, including the Hospital Auxiliary, Library Board, Liberal Party, Order of the Eastern Star and the Atikokan Cultural Committee.
Mary was employed as a legal assistant for the law offices of Larry Eustace for several years. She enjoyed playing bridge, political discussions, Eva Lake family gatherings, classical music and the latest fashions. She loved visiting her many friends and meeting new people.
She is survived by her five children: Carol and Pat of Winnipeg, Mary-Jo of Gibsons, Susan of Victoria and Cathy of Sechelt, BC. She was pre-deceased by her son Randy in 2011, and her husband Webb in 1985. She will be remembered lovingly by numerous nieces and nephews, grandchildren and great-grandchildren, and her good friends on the Sunshine Coast and across Canada.
There will be a celebration of life for Mary in July of 2015; interment will take place at Little Falls Cemetery at that time. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in Mary’s name to the Atikokan Hospital extended care unit.
