Ellen Hill
Ellen Norine Hill, 73, of Atikokan, passed away unexpectedly March 22, 2014 at Sault Area Hospital.
Ellen was born October 8, 1940 in Wayne, Alberta, the daughter of Monica Norine (Molly) Duffin (nee Kannegiesser) and Molly’s second husband Henry Cassman.
In 1958 Ellen married Donald Hill in Thunder Bay and they relocated to Atikokan, Ontario where they stayed to work and raise their family. Ellen was an active member of the Royal Canadian Legion Br 145 and Ladies Auxiliary Branch 145 in Atikokan for at least 50 years. She looked forward to volunteering with the Legion’s children and seniors’ Christmas parties every year. Ellen was a member of the Atikokan Volunteer Ambulance Corps for many years, achieving many certificates of which she was very proud. She was a graduate of Confederation College’s health care aid program.
Ellen participated in many sporting events and loved getting out for a game of anything with her friends… golf, darts, bingo, slots, curling, bowling and beating Dad at cribbage… she enjoyed it all. She loved to be involved with anything in the community, especially if it benefited children.
Ellen lived life to its fullest. Family and friends were Ellen’s passion and delight. Her biggest joy was her grandchildren Stephanie Charlotte Mallard and Adam Alexander Pero.
