Obituary: John Zuefle

John Zuefle

John Hamilton Zuefle, 92, died tragically in Killarney, Ontario on December 7, 2017.

He was born to Earlin Rufus Zuefle and Catherine Hamilton of August 12, 1925, in Kelvington, Saskatchewan. On March 25, 1944, he married Myrtle West in Winnipeg. They had six children: John Earl, who was born September 20, 1944, and passed away the same day; John Harold; Dianne; June; Zona; and Michael.

John was a Second World War veteran. After the war, he and Myrtle lived on Vancouver Island amongst parents, sisters, and many cousins. In the late 1940s, they moved to Atikokan, where John began a career in mining.

John and his family moved to Killarney, in the late 1960s where he would work for Indusmin Ltd. as a superintendent to start up the Badgeley Island Quarry. He made many friends in Killarney and area and was very proud of the safety and production records that his crews achieved at the mine.

John loved the outdoors – fishing, boating, and riding over the ice, good or bad, in his airboat that he called The Scoot. Poetry was his passion, with Robert Service being a favourite. He knew many poems and loved to recite them for his family and friends. John will be remembered he will be missed.

In addition to his children John Harold (Helen), Dianne, June, Zona, and daughter-in-law Denise, wife of his late son Michael, he is also survived by grandchildren, Karl (Chrissie), Kristen, Stefan (Kim), and Lucas; Ben and Brian; April (Ted), Stanley, and Justin; and David (Nicole) and Lynnea (Andrew); their families, great grandchildren, and many other extended family members.

He was pre-deceased by his wife Myrtle (2000), his son Michael (2005), his parents, sisters Kathleen and Philomene, and half-brother Earlin Clare Zuefle.
