Leo Larmache
It is with great sorrow we announce the passing of Leo Joseph Lamarche, husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, brother and friend. On July 28, 2017 after a lengthy illness Leo passed away with his family by his side at the Thunder Bay Regional Hospital.
Leo is survived by his wife of 55 years Judy Lamarche, his children Vicki (Scott) Froese, Shelley (Reg) Garrioch, Sean (Teri) Lamarche, LeeAnne (Jason) Fenn, his grandchildren Travis (Nikol) Garrioch, Tyler Garrioch, Brandon Froese, Kylie Harvey, Ashley Lamarche, Megan Lamarche, Jacob Fenn, Hannah Fenn and his great granddaughter Austin Raya Garrioch (Leo’s little Angel). Also by his brother Reg (Dee) Lamarche and his three sisters Monique Zinc, Irene (Gord) Gravel, Diane Langlois and sister-in-law Janet (Jay) Lanteigne and many nieces and nephews.
Leo was predeceased by his parents Edmond and Marie Lamarche, brother Jerry Lamarche, brother-in-law Bill Zinc, father-in-law and mother-in-law Ignatius and Gladys Lee, sister-in-law Catherine Lee, nephew Mark Lamarche and niece Therese Peters.
Leo was born in Timmins, ON on August 18, 1939 and grew up in Sarnia, ON. Leo started his teaching career in 1960 in Sarnia, ON and in 1968 he moved his family to Atikokan, ON where he taught until he retired in 1994. Leo’s grandchildren became his passion, he was the happiest when he was with them and spent many many hours watching them at arenas, baseball diamonds, soccer fields, and on volleyball and basketball courts in various cities across Canada. Leo loved his Atikokan community, and over the years he sat on several boards/committees such as OPSMTF (Teachers Federation), Minor Hockey & Recreation, Little Falls Golf Course as well as the Men’s and Senior Men’s Golf Clubs. He coached hockey at various levels for a number of years. He enjoyed playing soft ball and being an umpire and playing hockey and being a Referee. He played many rounds of golf on the Atikokan Golf Course as well as various courses throughout Canada and the US. Leo and Judy enjoyed several years as snowbirds in Florida and Texas.
He will be sadly missed by his good buddies Brian, Dakker, Dave, Larry, and Rudy. A celebration of life will be held at a later date.
In lieu of flowers, if so desired, donations may be made to the Thunder Bay Regional Health Sciences Centre.
