Lorna Marr

The family of Lorna Marr, 60, announces her passing after a lengthy illness on Monday, January 12, 2015 at the Atikokan General Hospital.

Lorna was born April 8, 1954 in St. Ann, Manitoba to the late Claude and Doreen Bedard. Along with her parents, and brother Brian, she moved to Atikokan in 1955.

In her earlier years, Lorna worked in retail as manager of Sunset Country Sports (formerly Quetico Tackle) and upon its closure began work in administration for the Shelter of Hope (Crisis Centre).

Lorna’s life and work experience in business and management enabled her to “take care of business”. Her strength and advice to others were characteristic of Lorna.

Lorna enjoyed many activities including curling, snowmobiling, and later a passion for gardening which was passed on to her by her mother.

Lorna enjoyed life on Perch Lake from in her early twenties when her parents built the family cabin. Many fond memories of cabin life grew here so much so, that she and husband Tom purchased a small cabin of their own not far from her family’s. Not long after, in 1993, Tom and Lorna built a permanent home on Perch Lake. In the fall of 1996 Tom and Lorna purchased Marr’s Perch Lake Lodge which they owned and operated together for 18 years. As the resort blossomed, there were times when Lorna would have to prepare upwards of 100 meals twice a day for groups such as the Boys Scouts and tree planters.

Some of Lorna’s happiest times were during family gatherings at the lake for barbecues, birthdays and other special occasions. With her passion for cooking, she would put out large spreads for everyone to enjoy!

Lorna was predeceased by her mother Doreen Bedard (June 30,1998), her brother Brian (April 8, 2004) and her father Claude Bedard (March 8, 2012).

She is survived by her husband Tom, her son Jason Mattson (Tammy) of Atikokan, daughter Tara Mattson (Al) of Fort Frances, step-son Brad Marr (Vanessa) of Mexico, seven grandchildren: Christopher and Michael Foy, Cole and Darbie Mattson, and Mariah, Ashlyn and Aiden Marr. Also surviving are her brother Adrian (Wendy) of Atikokan and her sister Tracey (Perry) Towle of Thunder Bay, and numerous nieces and nephews.

As per Lorna’s wishes, there will be no service. Cremation has taken place and a family interment of ashes will be held at a later date. In memory of Lorna, donations may be made to the Atikokan General Hospital.
