Robert van Soest, 65, passed away in St. Paul, Alberta on January 15, 2015, with his family by his side.
Robert was born in Holland and came to Canada with his parents as a boy. He came to Atikokan with his parents in 1968, and attended AHS for a year, and later became a maintenance mechanic at the Caland mine. He went on to have a long and successful career in the oilfields of Alberta.
He is survived by his wife Debby and sons Nick, Darryl, Scott, and Corey and daughter Carmen; sister Norine van Soest; parents Reiny and Hank Smit of Atikokan, brother Gerry and sisters Veronica and Joanne.
